KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday allowed Mir Munawar Ali Talpur, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader an
d brother-in-law of former president Asif Ali Zardari, to go United Kingdom in order to get
his medical treatment.
Talpur, who is being inves
tigated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) pertaining to alleged corruption and embezzlement, filed application through his counsel and sought permission to leave the country as he mai
ntained that he needed a treatment which was only possible abroad.
The applicant’s counsel informed the judges that his client is scheduled to leave the country on December 14 and will come back on February 14 after getting medical treatment; therefore, he should be allowed to go to aboard.
A division SHC bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, approved Talpur’s application and directed him to submit a surety of Rs 5 million. The court also directed its staff to forward the copy of this order to the Interior Ministry so that the applicant would not have any difficulty while leaving the country.
Earlier, PPP MNA from NA-227 had approached the SHC to avoid his possible arrest by country’s top anti-corruption department as it has initiated an inquiry against him over charges of corruption. The petitioner had submitted that NAB had issued him a call-up notice regarding the alleged illegal allotment of land and embezzlement of millions of rupees.
Talpur had submitted that the NAB is trying to impl
icate him in false cases but he was never involved in any corruption or misuse of authority. He submitted in the petition that he is being harassed by the NAB in relation with that inquiry. He apprehended that he would be arrested by the investigators therefore he should be granted a bail.
