ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday set hearing of pleas that call for probe of Panama leak against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on October 20.
The SC’s three-member bench was headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali to hear the petitions – mainly submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), among others – nearly a week from today.
Besides PTI and JI, the political parties whose petitions are going to be heard are Awami Muslim League (AML), Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and that of advocate Tariq Asad.
However, the first hearing on October 20 will see whether the petitions are admitted for trial or are discarded by the apex court. Almost all the petitions seek Nawaz’s disqualification and order retrieval of all the funds – allegedly – deposited in foreign banks by him and his family.
In a turn of events, some of the political parties have also requested the court to add Nawaz to the Exit Control List (ECL).
Meanwhile, opposition parties demand a fresh premier to lead the nation claiming that Nawaz has lost moral grounds to be the prime minister over his alleged unaccounted-for wealth.
