MIRPUR: People of Jammu & Kashmir living on both sides of the Line of Control and in rest of the world will mark India’s Independence Day on August 15 as Black Day to condemn India’s denial of right to self-determination to them since 1947.
Kashmiris also mark the Black Day to highlight their peaceful struggle for freedom from the Indian occupation in line with the resolutions of the United Nations as well as Indian atrocities against innocent and unarmed people of Kashmir. The Black Day is marked to denounce the Indian imperialism and occupation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir for the last 69 years, the organisers said. “Anti-India rallies followed by protest demonstrations in all small and major cities and towns on both sides of the LoC will mark the day,” said Chaudhry Amjad Iqbal, chairman of the National Events Organising Committee, Mirpur District. Indian paramilitary troops remained on high alert during curfew in Srinagar on August 14, the Independence Day of Pakistan. Indian-occupied Kashmir has been under a curfew almost for the last one month after protests broke out following the killing of Kashmiri separatist fighter Burhan Wani in a suspicious encounter with the Indian security forces. More than 50 civilians have been killed in clashes between protesters and Indian security forces in recent protests.
